thought for the day
So I was watching The Simpsons tonight when I heard an incredibly profound statement. Actually, the entire episode was very profound, but this statement just leaped out at me and I thought it worth sharing:
No little girl can be happy unless she has faith in her father.
That is a simple, yet deeply true statement. And in it is the key to so many insecurities and struggles of women and girls today. Take a minute and just ponder that. That's all.

I find many little gems of wisdom on this show. :) It reminds me a lot of my family at times.

That is a sweet quote. I'm thankful that I had/have a good dad. It's truly priceless. Hope you're feeling better!

Sarah--so good to have you comment! Isn't it great? I'm feeling much better, though I still haven't shaken the cold completely. ah well. I'm getting there.
Melissa--I, too, often am truly astonished by the wisdom interspersed on The Simpsons. It's a much deeper show in many ways than most people give it credit for. This one stopped me in my tracks. I just had to share it.

The great thing about The Simpsons is not just the hidden gems, but the way that they can plant those gems within usually decent plots. While I feel like a lot of recent episodes have been rehashing old ground (changing the temporal backdrop, Simpsons as others, etc.), the show usually does an excellent job of embedding the one-liners someplace meaningful.
This is why Family Guy is generally so awful. Family Guy doesn't bother with good writing-- rather, it just plants whatever the hell it wants whenever the hell it wants.
